Who We Are: The Mission Behind We Are Cyrus

There are moments in history when people are called to stay silent, and moments when people are called to stand up.

We believe this is one of those moments.

We Are Cyrus was created to unite Iranian Americans and freedom-minded people around a simple but powerful idea: freedom survives only when good people participate.

Tens of millions of Iranians fled oppression, censorship, corruption, war, and authoritarian rule in search of something better. America became home not because it was perfect, but because it gave people the opportunity to speak freely, worship freely, build freely, and dream freely.

Yet too often, communities who understand the value of freedom the most remain politically and civically disengaged once they arrive here.

We Are Cyrus exists to change that.

Our movement was inspired by the legacy of Cyrus the Great, one of the most respected figures in Persian history and one of the earliest leaders known for defending human dignity, religious freedom, and the rights of conquered people. Long before the modern language of human rights existed, Cyrus became known for leadership rooted in justice, mercy, and civilization.

To us, Cyrus represents more than history.

He represents responsibility.

The responsibility to protect freedom once you have experienced what life looks like without it.

The responsibility to participate instead of standing on the sidelines.

The responsibility to preserve culture without losing gratitude for the nation that gave us opportunity.

We Are Cyrus is not built around division. It is built around civic action, leadership, truth, and community. We believe Iranian Americans should have a stronger voice in shaping the future of the United States while also standing for the freedom and dignity of the Iranian people.

Our mission is to empower communities through civic engagement, voter awareness, leadership development, education, media, storytelling, and grassroots action. We want to inspire a new generation of Iranian Americans and allies to become more informed, more involved, and more united.

This movement belongs to people who believe:

We believe civic engagement is not just political. It is cultural. It is moral. It is generational.

For the first-generation American trying to balance Persian heritage with American identity.

For the young person searching for purpose and community.

For the voices who feel ignored by both political extremes.

This is more than a website.

It is a growing movement dedicated to awakening civic responsibility, strengthening community, preserving Persian identity, and building a future rooted in liberty, dignity, and truth.

The story of our people did not end in exile.

It is still being written.
